Awareness Officer

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Assessing the situation of irregular migration in the target areas by contacting officials and holding meetings with residents in order to establish (the scale of the problem – its causes – ways of solving it – the bodies concerned…etc.)
  2. Preparing the plan for raising awareness of the dangers of irregular migration (monthly / annual) within the framework of the administrative body's plan for delivering the project at each association
  3. Holding awareness seminars in the target areas
  4. Coordinating meetings with project staff and following up delivery of the plans and programmes in each sector
  5. Coordinating meetings, recording them and following up the recommendations and decisions taken in meetings with the bodies concerned and with the administrative body
  6. Coordinating with relevant bodies when delivering awareness programmes (government agencies – mosque imams – church priests – youth centres – schools)
  7. Coordinating the schedule of home visits and the topics to be covered in line with the agreed plan
  8. Ensuring that awareness meetings are recorded and documented
  9. Preparing detailed monthly and quarterly reports on completed activities, covering the number of meetings held with partner bodies, the number of home visits, the number of meetings held in schools or youth centres, the number of awareness seminars, and the number of attendees (beneficiaries at each awareness session)
  10. Keeping a dedicated file containing reports on the programmes delivered (such as public meetings, seminars and visits) and on other awareness programmes and their topics
  11. Setting objectives and delivering the work plan for the awareness location, which requires:
  • That the awareness officer knows the different aspects of the work to be delivered and avoids overlap between activities
  • Varying awareness topics to suit the time and the target group
  • Ensuring awareness programmes cover all target groups
  • Achieving the objectives set precisely, so that the largest possible number of awareness messages reaches the largest number of groups in the target community
  • Drawing up a flexible timetable for delivering the programmes planned
  • Removing obstacles that may hinder delivery of these programmes, in coordination with the administrative body
  1. The awareness officer is also expected to work in areas where projects to improve employment opportunities are delivered, within or close to the areas covered by community development projects
