Reda Hegazy: from leadership to leadership

Professor Reda Hegazy a model of leadership embodying a deliberate move from pioneering the idea to pioneering its delivery. His career has rested on a reform vision that puts education quality at the heart of development and holds that real investment begins with people: the teacher, the learner and the institution. He also has a humane vision, believing that there are no zero-sum outcomes in the human sciences and that every individual has a right to education. Through his professional path, leadership moved from being an exceptional individual effort to a way of working. He managed education policy during his time at the Ministry by the measure of quality: quality regained its standing while he served as head of the education sector, then Deputy Minister, then Minister … He was able to make quality practices genuine work in schools. Dr Reda is one of the founders of quality work and trained many of those working in the field, making it a matter of will and of core practice. His first act of leadership was in building up education, and his brilliant role saw him complete a great many files during his work at the National Centre for Examinations and Educational Evaluation …bringing delight to learning, and future leadership …as head of Al Ryada University … and so the principles of excellence he holds are embodied in his work and his method. This is leadership that does not stop at achievement but goes beyond it to preparing leaders able to carry the work forward, and to building a national model that connects ambition with reality and turns challenges into opportunities for growth. And so Dr Reda Hegazy continues along a path in which leadership renews itself, not as a stopping point but as a permanent approach.
