Al Ryada University strengthens its lead in green education and affirms: governance is the basis of sustainable development
In a step that reflects its commitment to shifting towards a sustainable university model, Al Ryada University for Science and Technology (RST) organised a wide-ranging academic lecture on the role of institutional governance in supporting green education and meeting the sustainable development goals. The lecture was held within the national strategy of the Ministry of Higher Education, under the patronage of Dr Yehia Mabrouk, Chair of the Board of Trustees, and the leadership of Prof. Reda Hegazy, President of the University.
The university hosted the lecture in the presence of its leadership, faculty members and teaching assistants. Dr Hegazy Idris Yassin, adviser to the University President 
for international cooperation, gave a comprehensive presentation on the close relationship between good governance and the building of a green education system able to face accelerating environmental and climate challenges. Dr Ahmed Abdel Hafez, professor at the Faculty of Education, Minia University, also took part via video link.
Prof. Reda Hegazy affirmed that good governance is a basic pillar of any successful development project, stressing that informed management of resources and the drafting of policies according to a clear strategic vision ensure a balance between the economic, social and environmental dimensions. He added that universities bear a national responsibility for embedding a culture of sustainability, not only by developing curricula but through the daily institutional practices that reflect these values and translate them into tangible reality.
He noted that modern education has moved beyond transmitting knowledge to producing it and using it to solve real problems, stressing the importance of developing academic programmes to graduate people with critical thinking and innovation skills, able to keep pace with technological and environmental change in line with the requirements of the labour market.
For his part, Dr Hegazy Idris explained that the concept of the “green university” is not confined to reducing energy consumption or cutting emissions, but extends to embedding the principles of sustainability in scientific research, curricula and student activities, strengthening the university's role as a main driver of positive change in society. He stressed that research partnerships and international cooperation are a basic pillar of this path.
In his contribution, Dr Ahmed Abdel Hafez stressed that green education rests on three main dimensions - knowledge, behaviour and values - and considered the greatest challenge to be turning these concepts into practice on campus, so that it becomes a model of sound environmental management.
The event is part of a series of initiatives carried out by Al Ryada University for Science and Technology to strengthen a culture of quality, innovation and sustainability, confirming its role as an educational institution that contributes to the making of a more aware and more sustainable future.
